TMC’s Hibdon named NHSCA Girls’ Basketball Coach of the Year

Cleveland, GA – Truett-McConnell College’s new Women’s Basketball Coach, Chad Hibdon, has been named the 2015 Girls’ Basketball Coach of the Year by the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA).

The NHSCA selects coaches from across the country through a nationwide search to recognize excellence in their respective sports. Top tier coaches are selected to represent over 20 boys’ and girls’ sports, with Hibdon earning the honor as this year’s standout for Women’s Basketball. With the selection, Hibdon becomes the first coach from Tennessee to win the prestigious award in its 16th year of existence.

“This announcement is always a lot of fun for me,” said NHSCA Executive Director Bob Ferraro, Jr. “The coaches we are honoring today are outstanding examples for successful high school coaches in their sport. They place a high value on the teamwork skills their players learn for success in the classroom and on the field, and we are proud to be honoring all of them.”

Hibdon garnered national attention during his recent tenure at Blackman High School, helping to build the Murfreesboro, Tennessee High School program into a national power over the last decade. Over the last two seasons at Blackman High School, Hibdon amassed a record of 66-3 en route to two consecutive Tennessee Class AAA titles. Perhaps even more impressive was the success of several of Hibdon’s players over the last few years, with four starters from his most recent squad earning Division 1 college scholarships. In addition, Blackman High was named mythical national champs by ESPN, MaxPreps and USA Today during their 2013-14 campaign.

“It is a tremendous honor to be named the 2015 NHSCA National Coach of the year for girl’s basketball,” said Coach Hibdon. “For me, this is a shared award with our coaching staff and players who invested so much and had a relentless desire to improve daily. It also recognizes what an amazing group of young ladies we had and our outstanding championship season. I am humbled to receive such an award as this, glory be to God.”

Hibdon resigned at the end of the season, accepting the position as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Georgia. Prior to accepting his new challenge at the collegiate level, Hibdon left Blackman with ten seasons under his belt and an overall record of 199-98, despite only winning ten games during his first two years as Head Coach.

“Coach Hibdon is an exceptional coach that loves his Lord, his family, and the game of basketball,” said Truett-McConnell Athletic Director, Stacy Hall. “We are humbled to have a man such as Chad Hibdon building a championship women’s basketball program at Truett-McConnell.”

Hibdon, along with the rest of the 2015 Coach of the Year Award winners, will be honored in the National High School Sports Hall of Fame Museum that is scheduled to be constructed in the near future by the NHSCA .
