Officials recover thousands of dollars worth of items stolen from Chimney Oaks Golf Club in Homer
Three teens are in jail in Banks County, charged with stealing tens-of-thousands of dollars worth of items from a golf course in Homer.
The Banks County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) received a report of a burglary at the Chimney Oaks Golf Club on Hammer’s Glen Drive Monday morning. According to the complainant, there were a number of items stolen from inside a building, including lawn equipment, electronics and gasoline.
A deputy on patrol in the Grove Level Road area later observed an older model blue Jeep Cherokee traveling reckless and at a high rate of speed in the opposite direction. The deputy temporarily lost sight of the vehicle while maneuvering to make a traffic stop, according to a news release from BCSO. “While still traveling the area in search of the vehicle, a citizen alerted the deputy towards the direction of Carson Segars Road where the vehicle was last seen traveling erratically.”
The deputy located the vehicle in a driveway on Carson Segars Road. Inside were several individuals. A male subject standing outside the vehicle, later identified as 17-year-old Louis Stiles, ran away as the deputy exited the patrol car.
Backup arrived and as officers spoke with the four people inside the Jeep, they saw items inside the vehicle that were “noticeably identifiable.” After further investigation, deputies were able to determine the equipment in the vehicle was stolen from Chimney Oaks Golf Club the night before.
The Sheriff’s Office says other items located at the residence were confirmed to be linked to Chimney Oaks Golf Club. “We can confirm that we have located 90% of the reported stolen items,” says Sheriff’s Lt. Carissa McFadden. She says they’re still investigating leads to locate the last missing stolen item.
Officers initially detained all four individuals in the Jeep but later released two female subjects. They arrested 17-year-old Wade Bolton of Homer and 19-year-old Adrian Scranton of Eatonton. Stiles was located and arrested later that night on Highway 98.
Bolton is charged with theft by receiving. Stiles and Scranton are both charged with felony burglary. Scranton faces an additional charge of theft by taking.
All three are being housed at the Banks County Detention Center.
