It’s been a tragic day on Northeast Georgia’s roads, with three deaths reported in two separate accidents in Hall County.
One man was killed in a fatal single-vehicle accident around 1:30 a.m. on I-985 in south Hall County. The accident happened in the area of mile marker 11, between the Friendship and Spout Springs Roads exits.
According to the early investigation, the SUV left the northbound lanes of the interstate, rolled several times and ejected the male driver, killing him. There were no passengers in the vehicle.
Investigators are working to notify the man’s next of kin who, officials say, did not live in the area. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the wreck.
The sheriff’s office is also investigating a head-on traffic collision that claimed the lives of two men early Saturday, April 24.
Sheriff’s deputies and Hall County Fire Services personnel responded to the call at approximately 2 a.m. on U.S. 129/Athens Highway at Barrett Road. Both drivers died at the scene of the crash, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office says. There were no passengers in the vehicles. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
The deceased drivers are identified as Marcos Ezequiel Lopez, 25, of Gainesville, and Toby Langley, 42, of Talmo. Deputies have notified next of kin.
According to the preliminary investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit, Lopez was southbound on Athens Highway in a Toyota Corolla. He left his lane, and his car hit Langley’s northbound 2002 Ford Escape head-on.
The collision remains under investigation.
