Three drown in separate incidents in North Georgia

The Memorial Day holiday was marred by tragedy on North Georgia’s waterways as three people drowned, including a three-year-old boy. The child drowned in Carter’s Lake in Murray County in the northwest part of the state.

Two people drowned in Northeast Georgia.

Firefighters recoverd the body of a 15-year-old boy who drowned in Dick’s Creek in Lumpkin County. The teen was swimming with family when he slipped on a rock and went under, says Georgia Department of Natural Resources spokesperson Mark McKinnon. The victim’s name has not been released.

Authorities have still not located a man believed to have drowned Friday in Shoal Creek on Lake Lanier. He’s been identified as Xi Zhu, 56, of Marietta. According to McKinnon, Game Wardens have been searching for Zhu since Friday. The search is scheduled to resume Tuesday morning.

DNR reports one person was killed in a boating accident on Lake Lanier and another was injured in an accident on Lake Hartwell.
