Three arrested in “large scale” heroin trafficking organization

Investigators say group responsible for trafficking nearly $100,000 worth of heroin in and around Habersham County

Three people are in jail charged with trafficking heroin following one of the biggest local drug busts in recent memory.

45-year-old Michelle Dawn “Cinnamon” Dorsey of Demorest, 28-year-old Nigel Alan Waddell of Cornelia, and 26-year-old Tyler Josiah “Big un” Matthews of Cleveland were arrested Tuesday.

Their arrests followed a lengthy investigation targeting what officials call a ” large scale heroin trafficking organization” they claim was run by Dorsey.

“The investigation targeted a large scale heroin trafficking organization operated by Michelle Dawn “Cinnamon” Dorsey.”

The trio were taken into custody after officers executed search warrants at 530 Twin River Orchard Road in Demorest and 4172 Highway 255 South in Cleveland.

“The search warrants and subsequent arrests were the result of an 18 month investigation in response to several heroin related overdose incidents in Habersham, White and Banks counties,” says Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) Special Agent in Charge Mitchell Posey.

The searches yielded a large quantity of heroin valued at $7,000 but that, says Posey, is just the tip of the iceberg.

“The investigation revealed that the group is responsible for trafficking pounds of heroin valued at nearly $100,000 in and around the Habersham County area.”

Agents seized approximately $7,000 worth of heroin while executing search warrants at two properties in Demorest and Cleveland on May 2, 2017.

In addition to the trafficking charge Waddell is also charged with possession of marijuana.

All three were transported to the Habersham County Detention Center by the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office.

The join operation involved agents and officers from ARDEO, the Habersham and White County Sheriff’s Offices and the Georgia Department of Corrections K9 unit.

Posey says the investigation continues.
