Thirteen people killed on Georgia’s roads over long July Fourth weekend

It was a safer than usual Fourth of July on Northeast Georgia’s roads. No traffic fatalities were reported in the 21-county region that serves Georgia State Patrol Troop B, according to the Department of Public Safety. There was at least one traffic fatality reported in each of the other eight Troop regions.

In all, thirteen people died in twelve fatal crashes across Georgia during the 54-hours long holiday travel period between 6 p.m. Friday, July 3, and 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 5.

Statewide, Georgia State Troopers investigated 180 traffic crashes that resulted in 96 injuries. Troopers also investigated eight fatal crashes with eight fatalities while local agencies investigated four fatal crashes with five fatalities.

In addition to crash investigations, State Troopers arrested 322 people for DUI. Troopers and Motor Carrier Officers issued 7,609 citations and 8,679 warnings.
