Ft. Mill, SC – The Piedmont College men’s lacrosse team fell in a neutral site decision earlier today to Wesley College (3-1) by a final score of 11-8 at Nation Ford High School in South Carolina.
The contest marked the second straight time these two have met at Nation Ford High School with Piedmont dropping a 13-11 decision last season to the Wolverines.
PC scored three of its eight goals in man-up situations with Sumner Gantz, Steve Blanchard, and Spencer Ortis taking advantage of the extra-man opportunities. David Salvatelli led the team with his pair of scores, the only player on Piedmont’s squad to tally multiple goals on the day.
Salvatelli scored his first in the 2nd quarter before adding another in the 4th, Piedmont’s 8th and final score of the afternoon. The Lions trailed 7-5 at the half and 8-6 entering the 4th quarter in South Carolina, but the Wolverines never let up scoring three in the 4th compared to two for PC as Piedmont picked up a second straight loss after winning two straight before the current skid.
Mick Baker played the full 60 in goal making 20 saves on the afternoon while allowing the 11 scores. The loss drops Baker to 2-5 on the season while the win went to Wesley’s Josh Dean.
Salvatelli also led the team with five ground balls while Gantz and teammate Josh Schmidt were close behind with four each. Two others, Parker Ellison and Steve Miraglia, each collected three as well.
Ryan Price led the team with his three caused turnovers as he has now forced 13 takeaways in the last four games with at least three in each of those four contests.
The Lions, now 3-5 overall after today’s loss, will be back in action when Piedmont plays host to Concordia University from Wisconsin on Tuesday, March 17 with the opening face-off at Walker Athletic Complex set for 5:00 pm.
