Ad Astra. Booksmart. Rocketman.
All great movies and yet they fell short of making my list of the year’s 10 best films.
Instead, we get Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime, Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers, and a double dose of Keanu Reeves. Whoa!
On the other hand, my 10 worst list consists of another Melissa McCarthy misfire, Ryan Reynolds in the Pokemon universe, and the worst X-Men movie ever made.
Over the past year, it was another jam-packed time at the movies for yours truly and this year I broke my own record by seeing a total of 62 movies in 2019.
Just like I do every year, 10 movies made me happy with my job and 10 others stole two hours (give or take) of my life that I’ll never get back. Also, I have included my picks for runner-up on both lists.
Ladies and Gentlemen, without further ado, let the countdowns begin!
10 Best:
1. Avengers: Endgame
2. John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum
3. Blinded By the Light
4. Joker
5. Little Women
6. Toy Story 4
7. The Irishman
8. Us
9. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
10. Downton Abbey
Runner-up: Knives Out
10 Worst:
1. Captive State
2. Hellboy
3. Men in Black International
4. Playmobil: The Movie
5. Angel Has Fallen
6. The Kitchen
7. Dark Phoenix
8. Pokemon Detective Pikachu
9. Annabelle Comes Home
10. Miss Bala
Runner-up: Pet Sematary
And there you have it. Another year has come and gone at the movies. Did any of my picks also make your list?
Joker will be available on Blu-ray and DVD January 7th and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood and Little Women are still currently playing in theaters. The rest are available on Blu-ray and DVD.
As for the 10 worst list, even if they were playing on late-night cable, I still wouldn’t recommend them.
Until next time, this is Justin Hall wishing all of you a very safe and Happy New Year and as always, I’ll see you at the movies!
