Three savvy seniors at Tallulah Falls School are heavily invested in financial knowledge. Gavin Page, Andrew Erwin and Lucy Alexander competed in the Northeast Georgia Independent School division of the Georgia Council on Economic Education Fall 2021 Stock Market Game, winning at the regional level.

According to TFS government and economics teacher Dallas Barron, the Stock Market Game provides students with the opportunity to invest $100,000 of game money to aid in experiential learning.

“I let the students participate in the simulation with very little involvement from me outside of mini-lessons and reminders about the rules,” Barron said. “Their success is 100% earned as a student-led group.”

Over ten weeks, students have to purchase stocks, diversify their portfolios, and track current events with the goal of making a profit from investments.

This year’s winning team ended the season with a portfolio value of $120,555.85.

The Stock Market Game is a competition of teams from across the state. Three teams from the fall economics class competed against hundreds of teams from across the state of Georgia, Barron said.
