Students at Tallulah Falls School are preparing to head back to class. The private school in Habersham County reopens Monday. It will be the first time in nearly six months that the campus will be open for in-class instruction. Faculty and staff welcomed back international boarding students two weeks ago. Domestic boarding and day students return on August 24.

In preparation, the school has implemented a number of health and safety measures to guard against the spread of COVID-19. School staff and administrators gave local media a campus tour on Friday to showcase some of those safety measures.

“We wanted to offer a glimpse at the hard work by our Risk Management Team,” said President and Head of School Larry Peevy. “As excitement builds about our students’ return to campus on Monday, we have invited our families to partner with us to help keep our learning community as safe as possible.”

Making it possible for students to return to school was the goal behind all of the hard work, said Upper School Academic Dean Kim Popham.

“We are all ‘All In’ and ‘Better Together,’” Popham said, echoing the school’s theme.
Visitors observed a classroom Blended Learning demonstration led by Upper School Social Studies teacher Dallas Barron.

“While this school brings about new changes and challenges, I have never been this excited to start a school year,” Barron said. “Whether physically in the room or joining virtually, working with my students again is exciting and fulfilling.”

Assistant Head of School David Chester, who also led the Risk Management Team said it was important to be flexible and to extend grace as everyone comes back together next week.

“It’s important to remember to be flexible as we work together to keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible,” Chester said.

Also on the tour were health screening protocols, hallway traffic patterns, and staggered release protocols, water fountain and restroom modifications, a deep cleaning demonstration, and a visit to the newly expanded serving area in the dining hall.

Athletic Director Scott Neal closed out the tour, offering remarks on necessary adjustments to how student-athletes are participating in fall season sports.
