TFS MS, Varsity Swim have great success in recent meets

The Varsity swim Indians had another great weekend of competition at the Shiver Me Timbers invitational on January 9. The girls team placed 2nd out of 6 teams, while the boys team placed 5th out of 6 teams.

The following swimmers achieved personal best times at this weekend’s competition: Trevor Bramlett (50 Free, 100 Free), Dan Griswold (50 Free, 100 Breast), Brooke Hayes (100 Back), Layne Kafsky (100 Breast), Carter Miller (100 Free, 100 Breast), Henry Rickman (100 Fly, 100 Breast), Emery Sims (200 Free, 100 Back), Emily Smith (100 Back, 200 Free), Daya Ssemakula (100 Back), Karis Tatum (50 Free, 500 Free), Kate Trotter (100 Back), Abby Walker (100 Back), Halle Weyrich (100 Free, 100 Breast), Nelson Wilkinson (100 Free, 100 Breast), and Emily Wolfe (100 Fly, 100 Back).

Several swimmers finished in a top 3 spot in their individual events. Emily Smith placed 3rd in the 200-yard freestyle. Karis Tatum placed 3rd in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Nelson Wilkinson placed 2nd in both the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke.

One relay team swam to a top 3 spot in two of the relay events as well. The relay team of Daya Ssemakula, Karis Tatum, Tamia Moss, and Halle Weyrich swam to a 1st place finish in the 200-yard medley relay and a 2nd place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Four different swims earned state qualifying times this past weekend as well. Nelson Wilkinson swam to individual qualifying times in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.00 and met the qualifying time in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.33. The relay team of Karis Tatum, Tamia Moss, Daya Ssemakula, and Halle Weyrich qualified in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:05.30 as well as the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:52.23.

“We are so incredibly proud of our swimmers and their successes so far this season,” says coach Rachel Nichols. “The Indians compete again in their first virtual meet of the season this week at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center.”

The TFS Middle School Indians swim team had a great showing at this past Friday’s Ahoy Me Hearties Middle School Invitational. Both teams placed 2nd out of 5 teams in their respective categories.

95% of the TFS Middle School swam to personal best times at this meet. These swimmers include: Courtney Bard (50 Free, 100 Free, 50 Breast), Olivia Bonner (50 Free, 50 Back, 50 Breast), Penny Damron (100 IM, 50 Back), Nick Edenfield (100 IM, 50 Fly), Harry Goldfine (50 Free, 50 Back), Carsyn Griffis (100 IM, 50 Fly, 100 Breast), Charlie Harris (50 Fly, 50 Back, 50 Breast), Olivia Henderson (200 Free, 50 Breast), Jasmyn Marshall (50 Free, 100 Free), Landon Miller (50 Free), David Plaisted (100 IM, 100 Free, 50 Breast), Molly Rickman (100 IM, 50 Back, 100 Breast), Emily Shoemaker (50 Free), Adelaide Tatum (100 IM, 50 Fly, 100 Back), Jedd Thomas (50 Fly, 100 Free, 100 Breast), Lily Turpin (100 IM, 50 Fly, 100 Back), Keira Webb (100 Free, 100 IM, 50 Back), Zach Woodworth (50 Free, 50 Breast), and Walker Wright (50 Free, 50 Back, 50 Breast).

Six middle school swimmers had top three finishes in their individual events at this competition. Carsyn Griffis swam to a 3rd place finish in the 100-yard IM and the 50-yard Butterfly. Olivia Henderson swam to a 1st place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, a 2nd place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke, and a 3rd place finish in the 200-yard freestyle. Molly Rickman swam to a 2nd place finish in the 50-yard backstroke as well as the 100-yard breastroke. Keira Webb placed 3rd in the 100-yard freestyle. Nick Edenfield placed 2nd in the 100-yard IM. Jedd Thomas placed 1st in the 100-yard Breastroke.

TFMS swim relays had top 3 finishes as well. The relay team of David Plaisted, Nick Edenfield, Charlie Harris, and Jedd Thomas placed 2nd in both the 200-yard Medley Relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay. The relay team of Adelaide Tatum, Carsyn Griffis, Lily Turpin, and Molly Rickman placed 3rd in the 200-yard Medley Relay and 2nd in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
