No one who saw the work being put in would be surprised by the results of Frankey Moree’s senior season. The infielder closed out his Tallulah Falls career with his best season yet. In helping lead the Indians to the playoffs for the second time in school history, Moree set several school records in the process. It was something he focused on daily.
“Coming into this senior year, I knew that it had to be better than last year,” says Moree. “Every day, every practice, I wanted to get at least 1% better.”
The result? Batting .449 with 7 homeruns and 21 RBI, all career highs for Moree. His average was the fourth-best in a single season at TFS, and his homerun total is a new single-season record. Moree also recorded a TFS-best 44 hits. It’s the kind of season individually that any senior would wish for. While the stats are nice, his records someday might be bested. Memories never fade, however.
“I’ve played baseball for 13 years now, and my first baseball memory is of me in coach-pitch, and it was my first ever double play,” recalls Moree. “My favorite play would have to be last year when I was playing second base and a ball went to shallow right and I ran it down, dove for the ball, and threw someone out at home. My favorite game is the game when the team set the single-game home-run record (March 22, 2022, vs George Walton when the Indians blasted 7 homers). Another favorite memory is senior night when I got to play in front of my family again.”
Those are the moments and things that last, along with relationships established with coaches, players, teammates, and teachers. To that end, coach Justin Pollock has had a massive impact on Moree’s growth as a player and person.
“Coach Pollock is one of those coaches that know what they are doing and has a way of getting other people to see that,” adds Moree. “I was bought in from the first year he came here, and he has yet to disappoint.”
Pollock’s vision has led to the first two playoff appearances and first-ever state ranking (2022) in program history. He has helped elevate the games of each individual player to reach untapped potential. Moree finished his TFS career with a .354 average (3rd all-time), 86 hits (all-time leader), 9 homeruns (1st), 56 RBI (2nd), 66 runs (1st), 14 doubles (2nd), 5 triples (2nd), 23 stolen bases (2nd), and 28 walks (2nd). Moree even had 3 saves this season, marking a single-season and career record.
The lineup will miss Moree’s bat, and the team will miss his leadership. And while he’ll miss putting on the Tallulah Falls jersey and playing for the Indians, that’s not all he’ll miss.
“I’ll miss how the dorms just felt like a big family,” says Moree. “I made so many memories and friends here that it’s hard to imagine how high school would be anywhere else.”
Moree will likely be playing at the next level and is currently still looking through his options, with a decision looming in the near future.
