TFS Indians poised to make another run at state tournament berth

Tallulah Falls Boys Basketball team on upswing; tied for 2nd in sub-region play

The Tallulah Falls Varsity Boys Basketball Team is finishing the season on an upward trend. The boys have won 5 of their last 6 games defeating Mt. Paran Christian School (75-60), Commerce HS (94-82), Providence Christian Academy (64-58), Towns County (81-47), and Riverside Military (89-84) while dropping a hard fought game against Hebron Christian 85-83.

TFS is getting balanced scoring in their recent games led by Senior Tahj Moss in scoring with 19.7 points per game, Matthew Weidner 16. 8 points per game, Hayden Johnson 14.3 points per game, Reeves Cody with 10.7 points per game.  Junior point guard Jake Carver and backup Sophomore Winston Davis are averaging 14.o points per game and 6 assists per game.

 

Against Mt. Paran out of Kennesaw, the Indians’ Moss garnered a team high 20 points combined with 14 rebounds in the victory.  In the loss against Hebron Christian out of Dacula, Moss had 34 points and 12 rebounds while Weider had 17 points and Cody had 16 points.  TFS came from behind by 10 points to tie the game in the waning seconds before dropping the game in the final seconds to Hebron Christian Academy.

In the victory over Commerce, the Indians never trailed and were led by Hayden Johnson’s school record 8 three pointers en route to his team-high 27 points.

Providence Christian Academy gave the Indians a scare, leading as late as 2 minutes to go in the game, before the poise of the Indians from the free throw line showed in the victory as they made 14 of 16 free throws including all of their 4th quarter shots.

The Indians avenged an earlier 75-73 loss over Towns County as they led by as much as 30 points most of the 2nd half.  The potent scoring attack saw 4 Indians reach double figures in only 3 quarters as substitutes played the entire 4th quarter. The Indians then defeated Riverside Military Academy in a thrilling 89-84 victory in overtime as the Indians took control early in the overtime period to cruise to their 4th victory in a row. Moss and Johnson had 25 points each and Carver had 7 assists in the Region 8A victory.

The wins put TFS in a tie for 2nd place in the Sub region as the season winds down to its last 2 weeks with an 11-9 record.

The young Indians have really begun to play outstanding basketball in their high-scoring attack (averaging 81 points in January) and are poised to make another run at a state tournament berth like last year’s 24-5 Sweet Sixteen team.
