Tallulah Falls School swim team competed against seven teams with more than 250 high school and middle school swimmers at the Habersham Central High School Rockin’ Raider Swim Meet Saturday, November 14 in Clarkesville.
TFS mens’ team placed third with senior John Luke Gallagher of Clarkesville leading the team with a first place finish and Georgia High School Association state qualifying time 57.47 in the 100-yard butterfly. Gallagher won the 100 yard freestyle event with a time of 53.16.
Junior Savva Ivakin of Russia placed second in the 200-yard individual medley and third in the 100-yard backstroke. Freshman Nicholas Stelmack of Toccoa placed 2nd in the 100-yard butterfly and third in the 200-yard freestyle.
The relay team of Gallagher, Ivakin, Stelmack, and senior Aryan Bhagwat of United Arab Emirates made TFS swim team history by qualifying for the GHSA state swim meet in the 200-yard medley relay. This relay team has now qualified for the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays.
For the ladies, freshman Virginia Griswold of Clarkesville scored the most points leading them to a second place finish. Griswold won the 200-yard freestyle race and took second in the 100-yard butterfly.
Teammate junior Julia Nichols of Clarkesville won the 50-yard freestyle race with a GHSA state qualifying time of 26.45 and had a third place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. Freshman Norah Griswold of Clarkesville was second place in the 200-yard individual medley, and freshman Julia James of Clarkesville placed third in the 200-yard freestyle event.
The women’s relay team of Virginia Griswold, junior Anne Edwards of Sautee-Nacoochee, Norah Griswold and Nichols won the medley relay and took second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of James, junior Sunni Brett of Clarkesville, freshman Taylor Huling of Mt. Airy and junior Yuting Zhang of China took third place.
The Indians will compete next on December 4 at the Ruby C. Fulbright Aquatic Center in Clarkesville.
