Incumbent Habersham County District 3 Commissioner Jimmy Tench has won the Republican primary. Unofficial returns show Tench beat out challengers Jimmy Dean and Jason Smith to claim 55% of the vote and avoid a runoff.
The win secures another term for Tench, who does not face a Democratic challenger in November.
During Tuesday’s partisan primary and special election, Habersham County voters also approved a $59 million Education Special Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST). And Mt. Airy voters approved Sunday package sales.
According to the Habersham County Elections Office, 9,972 of the county’s 28,093 active registered voters cast ballots in Tuesday’s primary for a 36% voter turnout.
