Poll workers are making final preparations for Tuesday’s municipal elections. Part of that prep work involves setting up a temporary polling site for voters in Baldwin and Cornelia.
The future Habersham South Voting Precinct is still being renovated. Because of that, voters will have to cast ballots at the temporary location next door, in the old Community Bank Operations Center (formerly Ingles) near Belk in Cornelia.
Banks County voters who live inside the city of Baldwin will also vote at this location. It’s the same building that was used for the December 2022 runoff.
County Election Supervisor Laurel Ellison says signs will be posted outside Baldwin City Hall and the Cornelia Community House on election day, directing voters to the temporary polling site.
The county is paying Ingles Markets Inc. $1,500 to lease the facility for three days. That’s on top of the more than $5,500 a month the county pays the company to lease the adjacent former Sears building where the new Habersham South Precinct will be located.
The buildings are located in the Habersham County Shopping Center off the Highway 441 Bypass in Cornelia.
