Teen shot in apparent Athens drive-by

Athens-Clarke County police are investigating an apparent drive-by shooting that wounded a 16-year-old boy over the weekend.

Around 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5, officers responded to a shots fired call at 705 Spring Valley Road. There, they located the teen with a gunshot wound to his right arm.

“The juvenile stated he was walking near the complex’s mailboxes and office building when unknown males shot him,” says Athens-Clarke County Police Department (ACCPD) Assistant Public Information Officer Geoff Gilland.

EMS transported the teen to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening wound.

According to Gilland, police found multiple shell casings around the mailboxes and collected them as evidence. ACCPD later determined that a white Honda Civic was seen leaving the complex at the time of the incident.

This incident is under investigation. Police ask anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact Sgt. Black at [email protected] or 762-400-7058.
