Taylor to help piedmont recruit students, improve leadership program

Judy Taylor, President of the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce, has been named Coordinator of the Neighborhood Grant Program at Piedmont College.

In this new role, Taylor, who has 43 years of experience in higher education, recruiting and business development, will assist in recruiting nontraditional adult students, advise Piedmont’s Leadership Studies Program and plan student recruiting events.

Taylor announced her retirement from the chamber June 18 and has also served as Vice President for Economic Development at North Georgia Technical College. She holds B.A. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of Georgia and Specialist and Ph.D. degrees from Georgia State University. A certified economic developer trainer, Taylor sits on several boards.

“Dr. Taylor will be a tremendous ambassador for Piedmont College,” said Dr. Perry Rettig, Piedmont’s Vice President for Enrollment Management and Athens Campus. “She has deep connections in our community and a wealth of experience. Dr. Taylor has a unique understanding of the needs of both employers and adult learners because she has served as both an educator and economic developer.”

Taylor joined the chamber in 2009 and has authored three business textbooks. She worked 34 years in the Technical College System of Georgia, 20 at Athens Technical College and 14 at North Georgia Technical College.

“Dr. Taylor’s commitment and contribution to the Habersham Chamber of Commerce is far reaching beyond the chamber office and businesses of Habersham County,” said Phillip Smith, Chairman of the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce.  “She’s a model of excellence and her work ethic unmatched. Her heart is that of a servant leader that we’ve all come to love in Habersham. We’ll miss Judy immensely at the Habersham Chamber, but we’re excited about her new endeavors at Piedmont College.  Her influence will continue to positively impact our great county as she encourages others to pursue an education.”

Taylor will begin her new role in September.

“Piedmont College has had a tremendous economic impact on Habersham County, and the school has been a great community partner,” said Taylor. “Now is an exciting time to be a part of Piedmont, and I am looking forward to helping this thriving institution play a larger role in adult education.”
