VARSITY BOYS
The Indians won a low-scoring contest against Mt. Paran on Saturday in a rematch of last season’s season opener.
#8-ranked Tallulah Falls won 47-40 at home. Anfernee Hanna guided TFS with 13 points but was joined in double figures by Lincoln Hall (12) and Vlad Popescu (11).
The team returns to action on Saturday, November 19 in the Jefferson Thanksgiving Tournament, as the Indians will take on hosts Jefferson in the first game. TFS is now 1-0 on the season.
VARSITY GIRLS
The 2022-23 has officially tipped off, with the Lady Indians dropping a tough 63-39 contest against #1-ranked Mt. Paran on Saturday at home.
The Lady Indians held close, trailing just 14-9 after the first quarter. Mt. Paran pulled away, taking a comfortable 32-19 halftime lead. That ballooned to 49-29 by the end of the third. From there, the visitors outscored TFS 14-10 in the final period on the way to the 63-39 win.
Denika Lightbourne led the Lady Indians with 20 points, as seven different players scored for TFS. Breelyn Wood and Tanisha Seymour had four points apiece. Haygen James, Millie Holcomb, and Allie Phasavang each had three points, and Emily Cai had her first varsity points.
Lightbourne is now nine points shy of 1,000 for her career. The girls return to action on Saturday, November 19 in the Jefferson Thanksgiving Tournament. The Lady Indians will open the tourney against Denmark.
JV BOYS
The JV Indians also reeled off a win, though theirs came much easier at 53-27. After getting out to a slow start with only 25 points in the first half, the team found energy and more rhythm offensively in the second half.
Timothy Bain and Andrija Vujagcic led in scoring with 12 points apiece, while Manda Mandic had eight and Petar Radovic seven. The JV Indians are 1-0 on the season.
