The state championship win for the Lady Indians volleyball team came on November 4. The school and community are still celebrating and basking in the glow of the legendary run.
On Friday night, January 13, the Lady Indians volleyball team was celebrated throughout the varsity basketball games against Commerce. Highlighting the night was the unveiling of the brand new State Champions banner that will be a constant reminder of the epic season for the volleyball team.
Between the girls and boys varsity games, the team was introduced individually and met at mid-court to be recognized. After a reading of the team’s accomplishments, the championship banner — white lettering on gold cloth — was unveiled.
The Lady Indians went 35-11 and a perfect 14-0 at home, securing a number of school records (both individually and as a team along the way). The girls won their first-ever Area Championship and promptly made the most of their first-ever run past the Sweet 16. The season included beating eight ranked opponents.
Throughout the evening, several items commemorating the historic season were on silent auction, and all in attendance received 4×6 state championship team photos. Players took photos and signed items for fans, and the GHSA State Championship trophy was on display, along with a plaque commemorating the team’s title.
