Sweet Bread’s downpayment official

Lee Hull presented the City of Demorest with a check for $21,000 at last night’s called meeting. The payment is the official downpayment on the soon to be “former” City Hall. Demorest officials expect to move out of the current City Hall offices next week. City Hall will then be housed in the former Community Bank building on the corner of Historic 441 and Georgia St. The new location is larger and offers some needed amenities such as a large safe and a drive in window.

The old location will then be available for Hull to renovate into a restaurant. The “new” Sweet Bread’s will offer crepes, coffee and all of the old favorites from the menu in the Clarkesville location. The Clarkesville location was detroyed by a fire last year.

To facilitate these moves, the City of Demorest transferred ownership of the former City Hall to the Downtown Development Authority of Demorest and the Authority deeded ownership of the former bank building to the City. There was a note on the bank building and the downpayment from Hull will allow the DDA to pay off the note, leaving the building free and clear. Hull’s lease is with the DDA and all proceeds from the lease will go to the DDA.

Sweet Bread’s is expected to open in early Fall of 2015. Pictured above accepting the check from Hull is Steve Lindsey, newly appointed City Manager for Demorest.
