While the final closing documents have to be signed, Sweet Breads, LLC and the City of Demorest’s Downtown Development Authority have agreed in principle to a lease agreement. The lease is for the 579 Georgia Ave building soon to be vacated by City Hall, who is moving across the street to the former Community Bank building. Sweet Bread’s owner, Lee Hull, expects to be open in early fall. The projected hours are 7am-7pm with extended hours on the weekends. “We will be offering crepes, espresso, coffee, the salads we are known for, the sandwiches we are known for as well as a bar,” Hull told the DDA. City Council member, Donny Bennett, remarked that he sees this as the jumpstart of new developments in Demorest and that a restaurant and, in particular, Sweet Breads, “was the best of all possibilites” to locate in the City Hall location.
City Clerk, Marlena Sosebee, noted that progress continues in the relocation process. Wiring work is set to begin this week and a definite date for the move set after the wiring work is completed. The move is anticipated to take place before the end of April.
