…set to OPEN on Wednesday, September 23, 7am to 8pm.
Lee Hull and his crew have been hard at work transforming the old Demorest City Hall into the new Sweet Breads. The original Sweet Breads location in Clarkesville was tragically destroyed in the fire that damaged the Clarkesville Square over a year ago. Another restaurant lost in the fire, Natalie Jane’s, opened earlier this year in Cornelia.
Extensive renovation to the City Hall building has added seating and a kitchen. The old offices and flooring were demolished. Patrons will be pleased to see some old familiar decor items as well as new, custom items. A coffee bar has been added to the front entrance. An expanded deck at the rear will provide ample seating to enjoy fall’s weather. The menu pictured above is a work in progress with the final menu available on Wednesday. Customers can expect some old favorites as well as new items. Sweet Breads was approved to serve beer and wine earlier this summer.
The Demorest City Council and the Downtown Development Authority have been working right along with Hull and his staff. Hull’s downpayment on the building allowed the Authority to pay off the remaining note on the new City Hall office, the former Commuity Bank building, and tranfer ownership of the building to the City, while the City transferred ownership of the former building to the Authority. Proceeds from the rental of the building will add to the treasury of the Authority who have plans to continue to attract new business to the downtown area. Officials see the opening of Sweet Breads as the beginning of a renaissance to the downtown area, along with the addition of the new Piedmont Village housing along Demorest-Mt. Airy Rd.
Sweet Breads is on Georgia Avenue in downtown Demorest and will be open Wednesdays to Mondays. Closed on Tuesdays.
