Some tense moments in Commerce Wednesday after the discovery of a suspicious package in the Banks Crossing area. The package was found behind Wendy’s on U.S. 441. Businesses in the area were evacuated and the scene cordoned off as agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation were called in to investigate.
“The GBI specialized team did respond to the scene and used their equipment to determine that the package did not contain any type of explosive nor did the packaging,” says Banks County Sheriff’s Sgt. Carissa McFadden. “We do have witnesses that we are questioning at this time as well as using the information that they have given to look into any type of reason to why this package was placed where it was.”
The scene was re-opened and all businesses were back in operation within a few hours.
