26-year-old Dextavious McCurry was arrested late Thursday in Anderson, seven hours after the shooting took place at a residence in the area of Highway 59 and Barnes Circle in Commerce.

At the time of his arrest Banks County Sheriff Carlton Speed said, “With the investigation steadily evolving, neighboring agencies were alerted of a possible person of interest. It was determined that the shooting was an isolated incident and that the shooter and victim knew one another.”

The victim sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Extradition proceedings are underway. McCurry is expected to be returned from Anderson, South Carolina, to Banks County next week. He’s charged with aggravated assault, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
