Suspect wrecks while fleeing from State Trooper

A Nicholson, Georgia man faces a series of charges after attempting to flee from a Georgia State Trooper in Clarkesville Monday night.

40-year old Kevin Stockton was arrested after he wrecked near the Charm House at the intersection of GA 197 North and Rocky Branch Road.

The pursuit began at GA 15 near GA 17. Stockton fled when the State Trooper attempted to stop him for speeding and having a headlight out, according to Cpl. Casey Coffee of the Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.

As Stockton entered the intersection Coffee says he lost control of the Toyota RAV 4 he was driving and ran off the road. “The vehicle then struck a crosswalk sign, and an embankment. The vehicle then overturned striking a tree,” says Coffee.

The wreck happened at approximately 8:51 p.m.

Stockton was arrested at the scene of the crash. He was transported to Habersham Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

He’s charged with several traffic violations, felony fleeing, aggravated assault, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and driving under the influence.
