A Clarkesville man remains in jail after leading Habersham County deputies on a chase that ended with him crashing into two patrol vehicles.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, 37-year-old Curtis Glenn Mincey ran from a marked patrol vehicle when the deputy tried to pull over his 1994 Dodge Dakota pickup truck for a taillight violation around 3 a.m. Sunday on Toccoa Highway near Blacksnake Road.
Deputies reported that Mincey fled south on US 441 in the lefthand lane. He reportedly attempted to pass a patrol vehicle in front of him by crossing into the grassy median. The pickup sideswiped a sheriff’s office Tahoe driven by Sgt. Brian Collins.
After striking Collins’ vehicle, Mincey continued to flee southbound on US 441. Troopers say he then crashed into a second deputy, Corporal Adam Ivester, in the right southbound lane. The chase ended after Mincey and Ivester collided a second time and the suspect’s vehicle ran off the highway and struck a guardrail.
Neither of the deputies was injured. Mincey sustained minor injuries. EMS transported him to Habersham Medical Center for treatment.
The state patrol charged Mincey with DUI and tire violations. The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office booked him on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, obstruction of an officer, and three counts of aggravated assault.
Now Habersham requested dash cam video of the pursuit, but the sheriff’s office refuses to release it. Georgia law does allow such video to be withheld in active investigations, but it does not prohibit its release.
Prior to his arrest Sunday, Mincey was charged with failure to appear in court in an unrelated case, jail records show. As of early Monday, he remained in the Habersham County Detention Center.
