A Lawrenceville man faces numerous charges in White County following an incident this past Saturday.
On September 25, White County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Dukes Hollow Road at Smithgall Woods State Park in reference to an assault.
According to Capt. Clay Hammond, a female victim reported she was approached while outside her cabin by 24-year old Austin Blake Smith of Lawrenceville who was armed. The victim escaped from Smith, who later allegedly stole a vehicle belonging to the victim’s group that was at the park.
The vehicle and property of Smithgall Woods State Park were damaged in the incident.
Deputies took Smith into custody a short distance away in the area of Alternate Highway 75 and Asbestos Road.
According to Hammond, as a result of the investigation, Smith has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault, criminal attempt to commit home invasion, second-degree criminal damage to property, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, interference with government property, and theft by taking a motor vehicle.
As of Thursday afternoon, September 30, he remained in the White County Detention Center.
