We’re still more than a week away from the Nov. 6 but Habersham County voters are making it clear, they’re not sitting out this election.
So far, 22.8% of the county’s active registered voters have cast ballots.
Habersham County Election Supervisor Laurel Ellison reports that as of Oct. 27, 5,627 of the county’s 24,708 active registered voters have cast ballots. Of those, 4,401 ballots were cast during the first two weeks of early, in-person voting at the county elections office, 699 were cast during Saturday voting, and 527 absentee ballots have been received.
Much of the turnout is undoubtedly fueled by the hotly-contested governor’s race between Democrat Stacey Abrams and Republican Brian Kemp. The latest polls show the two are in a statistical dead heat, less than two weeks ahead of the General Election.
If you haven’t yet voted, you still have time to avoid election day lines.
Advance voting begins Monday. The Habersham North and South precincts will be open daily from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Oct. 29 through Nov. 2.
Habersham North is located at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center in Clarkesville. Habersham South is located at First Baptist Church of Cornelia.
If you’re registered to vote in Habersham County you may vote early at either of these precincts or at the Habersham County Elections Office in Clarkesville through Nov 2. Once election day arrives, you must vote at the precinct to which you’re assigned.
