Summer nights street festival tonight in Cornelia

The Cornelia Entertainment District is hosting its monthly summer street festival, “Catch Me In Cornelia,” tonight, Thursday, July 28. Organizers describe it as a block party in the middle of the downtown district.

The festival will include live entertainment, artisan vendors, activities, kids’ games, and extended shopping hours. Downtown restaurants will be open. All the activities will be held inside the Entertainment District, where open containers of alcohol can be carried throughout the festival and in shops.

There will also be a passport game played for valuable prizes. Pick up a passport entry form at any of these participating shops: Bigg Daddys, The Gathering Box, Brownies by faith, Farm & Lavish, Community Brew & Tap, Fenders Alley and Fenders Diner, PattyKakes, Downtown Mercantile, Sugartopia, Whistle Top Brew Company, Cornelia Florist and Gifts, and the Axe Armory. Each participating business has donated to gift baskets that will be given away.

“The Entertainment District businesses have coordinated and put this together themselves, and the city is ecstatic to have enough businesses in the district that want to be involved in our economic development and downtown revitalization efforts,” says Owensby.

More block parties next year?

This is the second in a series of summertime downtown festivals scheduled in Cornelia on the last Thursday of each month: The third and final one this summer will be held in August. The May festival was canceled due to bad weather. June’s event was well attended, says Cornelia Community Development Director Jessie Owensby.

“The first one was so successful that they are discussing beginning them and extending from spring to fall in 2023,” Owensby adds. “That’s yet to be determined.”

The festival is scheduled from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. in downtown Cornelia. Hodges Street will close at 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Please use an alternate route.
