(Cleveland)- Summer means vacations, outdoor time, swimming, extra time at home or maybe camp but for some families in our area summer means a very hard time. Georgia Mountain Food Bank says that even with the summer programs more than 80% of the children and teens who get free breakfast and lunch at school do not have that help in summer and are in need of food assistance.
There are some good lunch programs that work to meet this need, but not every child is served by them. Some families do not have vehicles or money for gas to get to the feeding sites. Each year for the past four years Americans Helping American has reached out to these families, through Cleveland based, Caring Hands Ministries.
This year more than 180 boxes of food have already been shared with families in need in Banks, Dawson, Habersham, Hall, Lumpkin, North Gwinnett, and White counties. Caring Hands has a limited number of boxes left that are available to those in need.
Parents or grandparents can see if they qualify for a box while supplies last by texting 706-969- 2258 (texts only no phone calls please). If they don’t have a way to text they can leave a message at 706-219-1980.
Americans Helping Americans is a part of Christian Relief Services that reaches out to people in need in the Appalachian area through partner agencies like Caring Hands Ministries.
