Students from South Habersham Middle School toured the Historic Cornelia Train Depot and Chenocetah Fire Tower on February 26. The students who ranged in age from 11-15 years, enjoyed the tour and a goodie bag from Cornelia. After the museum tour, the students visited the Chenocetah Fire Tower and enjoyed a treat from “brownies by faith” while on the grounds.
The students were accompanied by Tracey Means, Melissa White, Judy Copeland, Tracey Clarke, and Joy White. After visiting the fire tower, the students continued their field trip, visiting other locations in Cornelia.
Always excited to show off her city, Jessie Owensby, Cornelia Community Development Manager commented, “We love hosting field trips at the Train Museum! It’s a great opportunity to expose our local residents to some of the things that draw tourism into our community!”
The Historic Cornelia Train Museum is open Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2 pm; Friday, 1 p.m. – 7 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Museum is located at 102 Grant Place, Cornelia, next to the Big Red Apple and admission is free!
The Chenocetah Fire Tower will begin opening on Saturdays, starting in late Spring.
