Hall County School officials say a kindergarten student is “okay” after being hit by the back end of a bus early Wednesday morning.

The incident happened at approximately 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Dogwood Street and Williams Street.

According to the school system’s director of communication, Stan Lewis, the child’s parent was running late, and the young girl missed the bus at her usual stop.

“The parent followed the bus in her car. Once at the next stop, the student exited the car, ran to catch the bus, and was struck by the rear of the bus as it was turning to go to the next stop,” Lewis says.

Lewis says the school bus driver was unaware that the student had been hit and returned to the scene of the accident once she was notified. EMTs checked out the student and released her to her parent.

“She is okay,” he says.

Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol worked the accident. They did not cite the driver.

Approximately 30 Lyman Hall students were on the bus when the accident took place. None of those students were injured. Another bus came and transported those students to school.
