Habersham County’s school superintendent says the student responsible for last week’s bomb threat at North Habersham Middle School has been identified and charged by law enforcement. Supt. Matthew Cooper released a statement this afternoon saying the student was charged on Tuesday.
“It is my understanding that the juvenile is being charged with two felonies and one misdemeanor,” Cooper says. “The juvenile is also facing the most severe disciplinary consequences possible through the school system and will not return to the school.”
Because the student is a juvenile, no other details are being released.
Cooper’s announcement comes exactly one week to the day that custodians discovered the threat written on a bathroom wall. The school was evacuated as law enforcement officers and bomb dogs searched the campus. They didn’t find anything suspicious. Police determined the threat was a hoax.
“I commend the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and the administrators at North Habersham Middle School for their diligent efforts to solve this crime. The safety of our students is our number one priority in the Habersham County School System and we will continue to put this priority into action everyday.”
