Storms Down Trees, Cut Power Saturday Afternoon

A strong thunderstorm downed numerous trees and caused power outages on Saturday afternoon.

Widespread thunderstorms developed across Northeast Georgia on Saturday afternoon, one of which produced damaging winds across portions of the region. Winds gusted to 31.1MPH in Cornelia, with higher gusts likely occurring in other areas of Habersham County. This resulted in numerous trees and powerlines down and scattered power outages. At peak around 5:30PM some 675 residents in Habersham and adjacent White County were without power, but by 6:30PM only 9 customers remained in the dark.

Damage occurred along parts of Highway 197 where trees took down power lines resulting in 131 residents without power.
