A late afternoon storm that moved through White County Friday downed several trees and knocked out power to hundreds of customers. The storm system blew through shortly before 5 p.m. Friday, July 28.

Heavy rain, cloud-to-ground lightning, and gusty winds developed as the storm front moved southeast from the Cleveland area.

The increased wind speeds were too much for several large trees in the Mossy Creek area, as three to four large trees were pushed over onto Post Road between Cooley Woods Road and Airport Road. These trees fell across powerlines, pulling them down and causing power loss to about 300 customers in the area.

Several more trees fell near the intersection of Lothridge Road and Black Road, where the wind dropped a battered trampoline.

White County Emergency Services closed Post and Lothridge roads for cleanup and utility repairs. Habersham EMC reported scattered outages as a result of the storm. Service has since been fully restored.

No injuries were reported.
