A Habersham County man remains in jail following his arrest earlier this week for a burglary on New Liberty Road. Dusty Everett Banfield, 34, was apprehended after deputies observed suspicious activity near the scene of the crime, a news release from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office states.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a report of a burglary at a residence on northern New Liberty Road around 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16. Upon arrival, officers discovered signs of forced entry and confirmed that a burglary had occurred, but the suspect had left the property.
Shortly after, a Habersham County deputy observed a gold Ford Ranger parked suspiciously on the northern end of New Liberty Road with a white male standing outside. When the officer attempted to make contact with the man, he re-entered the vehicle and fled the scene, the news release states.
Deputies pursued the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Upon approaching the driver, officers say they observed items in the truck bed, connecting it to the burglary. They also identified the driver as Banfield.
Deputies arrested Banfield on an active warrant and determined probable cause existed linking him to the burglary. They say they recovered all the stolen property from his vehicle.
Banfield was booked at the Habersham County Detention Center on a probation violation and felony first-degree burglary charge. His bond was set at $3,400.
