Clarkesville is celebrating summer with a series of special events. The city’s annual post-Fourth of July celebration – Red, White, and Tunes – is set for Saturday, July 15. That will be followed by tales at the Mauldin House and tails at Pitts Park.
Sticks and Lies
Local artisan and storyteller Jeff Blackwell will be demonstrating his woodworking skills as he “spins a yarn” or two at the Mauldin House during Sticks and Lies.
“He has a character he portrays as being from the mountains, and he tells stories of Clarkesville’s history. We like to call them ‘mostly true stories,’ says Clarkesville Main Street Director Colby Moore. “Jeff is known to embellish a little bit. It’s a lot of fun. He’s a good character.”
This serial event will take place the last Saturday of each month “until the weather turns cold,” says Moore.
The city hosted Sticks and Lies last year, and Moore says it was very well attended. This year it kicks off on Saturday, July 29, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Sticks and Lies is free to the public. The city will serve refreshments. The Mauldin House and Gardens is located at 458 Jefferson Street in Clarkesville.
Dog Days of Summer
Clarkesville’s Dog Days of Summer returns to Pitts Park from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 12.
“This will be our event for pet lovers in the park,” Moore explains.
Attendees are invited to bring their dogs for an afternoon of fun and learning. There will be water features and demonstrations by law enforcement and agility dogs. Pet vendors and a veterinarian are also participating.
Pitts Park is located off GA 197 North, within walking distance of the downtown Clarkesville Square.
Music on Main
As summer barrels toward fall, Clarkesville is planning to again host Music on Main. This event, which is still being finalized, is on the calendar for Saturday, August 25, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on the downtown city square.
Organizers are currently finalizing the lineup.
