Stephens County Sheriff’s Office warns of scam calls

Authorities say an individual has been impersonating an employee of the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office and made several phone calls “advising citizens they are in contempt of court.”

The sheriff’s office posted to Facebook on Monday night urging members of the public to be wary of the scam calls.

“Sheriff’s office never calls anyone alerting them of criminal charges or pending warrants,” Stephens County Sheriff’s Office posted. “We are working diligently to identify those responsible for this scheme… Do not give out any personal information, including your Social Security number, date of birth, bank account information or personal history.”

Authorities ask that anyone who receives a suspicious phone call from someone claiming to be an employee of the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office to call the office at (706) 886-2525.
