It will be a time to hear about the “State of the School System” Address by Superintendent Dr. Connie Franklin. There will be special presentations to honor the 2024 Stephens County Hall of Fame Inductees, and performances by three of the elementary schools. It’s the Stephens County School System’s Second Annual Student Success Expo at the Stephens County High School on Thursday, May 2, from 5-7 p.m.
State of the School System
Dr. Franklin’s address will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the Inductees presentation at 6:30 p.m. in the Tugaloo Center. Big A Elementary will present its performance at 5:30 p.m., Liberty Elementary at 5:45 p.m., and Toccoa Elementary at 6:20 p.m. all in the Tugaloo Center as well.
“This system-wide event will showcase student achievements as well as resources available to our students and their families,” says Dr. Connie Franklin, Superintendent. “During the ‘State of the School System’ Address, students from every school will highlight their accomplishments.” Dr. Franklin will also highlight many of the achievements this school year including an update on the new Ferman Gregory Agriculture Center and athletic facility improvements.
Information
Parents can gather information about available summer resources including the free summer meal schedule, local camp information, and the Toccoa-Stephens County Library summer reading program.
You will have access to information on the Georgia Student Finance Commission, SAT Prep/Tutoring, Boys and Girls Club, Food to Kids, Social Empowerment, and additional school system information including the Infinite Campus parent portal, services provided by Exceptional Children (special education), college dual enrollment, work-based learning, JROTC, and more.
SC Store open
The SC Store will be open with school merchandise for sale and the AG greenhouse will be open with select plants available for sale. The Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) department will also be open for tours so parents, students, and local businesses can see the various career pathways available to students. Several senior college signings will take place in the Legacy Room.
“We are dedicated to student success and making sure our students are ‘future-ready,'” says Franklin. “This is a great opportunity for the community to take a sneak peek at all the Stephens County School System has to offer.”
Job opportunities
Also on hand will be the Human Resources department to answer questions about job openings within the School System. Parents who were unable to register their child for Kindergarten Registration can also do so at the Expo. There is a list of documents necessary to bring for registration.
The athletic department will host a “Coaches Corner” highlighting sports information for parents and students. The Stephens County Middle School Robotics team will be conducting a demonstration. There will be artwork from each school on display for everyone to enjoy.
The SCHS cheerleaders will also be on hand to greet their littlest fans, and there will be inflatables including Baleena the Whale and a StarLab.
Free pizza
Free pizza will be served beginning at 5 p.m. in the cafeteria, while supplies last. Attendees, who sign in at the check-in table, will be registered to win a 65” flatscreen television donated by ESS.
