A Stephens County man will be sentenced next month after a jury found him guilty of committing sex crimes against a young girl.

On Friday, jurors convicted 46-year-old William L. Holbrooks of child molestation and statutory rape. Their verdict followed a four-day trial in Stephens County Superior Court.

Holbrooks was accused of raping, sodomizing, and molesting a girl under the age of 16. A grand jury indicted him on five counts on November 23, 2021, one month after the alleged crimes occurred.

“He was convicted of the lesser included charge of statutory rape, and child molestation. He was acquitted of the other charges,” says Mountain Judicial Circuit Chief Assistant District Attorney Suzanne Boykin.

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. The child advocacy centers Powerhouse 4 Kids in Toccoa and Harmony House in Royston assisted investigators.

Boykin and Assistant DA Rebecca James prosecuted the case before Senior Judge Jack Partain.

Holbrooks will be sentenced on November 3.
