Three bridges in Stephens County are scheduled for replacement by 2026 or 2027.
The Stephens County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved agreements with Georgia’s Department of Transportation, which had identified three bridges in need of replacement. Two of those are on Riverdale Road and one on Tower Road.
County Administrator Christian Hamilton said the total costs of the upgrades aren’t yet known, though the county will provide a match of $200,000 in SPLOST funds on the projects.
“GDOT will provide the vast majority of the funding,” he said. “It could be several million to replace the bridges…(GDOT) determines, based on their transportation improvement plan, how long these bridges have been operating and what services look like on the state’s end.”
Work on the projects, which will be performed by GDOT, is expected to begin in the next two or three years, according to county officials.
