Statewide lookout issued for escaped murderer

The Georgia Department of Corrections has issued a statewide alert for a convicted murderer who apparently walked away from a transitional center in Atlanta.

52-year-old Charles Smith was convicted of a Clayton County murder in 1992. The agency didn’t provide details on how he was able to disappear.

“Details related to how he exited the facility are under investigation,” says Georgia Department of Corrections Public Affairs Director Joan Heath.

Smith is a Black male, 5’10” tall, and weighs 201 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen walking away from the Atlanta Transitional Center wearing black pants and a black shirt.

If you see him, do not approach him, call 911 or 478-992-5111.
