Georgia State School Superintendent Richard Woods is scheduled to visit Stephens County High School on Tuesday, May 20, at 10:15 a.m. The visit aims to recognize Stephens County High School and Stephens County Middle School for their exceptional achievement or growth in mathematics, as evidenced by their performance on the Georgia Milestones assessment.
Both schools were among 624 Georgia schools named “Math Leader Schools” by the Georgia Department of Education in November 2024. This designation honors schools demonstrating significant progress or high achievement in math, reflecting the dedication of educators and students alike.
He was originally scheduled to visit the school on Friday, May 9th, but his trip was canceled due to the severity of fog. “Due to heavy fog in Atlanta, the helicopter couldn’t lift off,” informed April James, School and Community Engagement Coordinator for the Stephens County School System. His visit has been rescheduled for Tuesday, May 20.
Superintendent Woods’ visit underscores the state’s commitment to academic excellence and provides an opportunity to celebrate the hard work of the Stephens County school community. During his visit, Woods is expected to present official recognition and engage with students, faculty, and staff to commend their accomplishments.
Superintendent Dr. Connie Franklin is looking forward to the visit. “It was disappointing when we had to reschedule due to the weather,” Franklin said. “We are very proud of our students and teachers for their hard work in achieving this honor.”
