If you’re heading into the Northeast Georgia mountains this weekend, here’s some travel information you might need. A portion of State Route 180 is closed for emergency repair. A detour route has been installed.
The highway is closed approximately 0.5 miles from State Route 129 near Vogel State Park in Union County. Recent heavy rains caused the shoulder of the road to collapse. Continued wet weather conditions are hampering repairs.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the highway will remain closed throughout the weekend into early next week. A detour is in place with message boards directing motorists south to State Route 9. Motorists are urged to use caution, follow the signed detour route, and expect some travel delays.
