A state prisoner who escaped from custody after leaving her job in Baldwin nearly two years ago is back behind bars in Habersham. Cheryl Alisha Graves, 34, of Cartersville, was arrested in her home county of Bartow.
Georgia Department of Corrections officials say Graves failed to report back to the Lee Arrendale Transitional Center in Alto after work on June 12, 2019. She escaped while serving a two-year sentence for making false statements to the government and was due to be released from prison in October 2020. She now faces a felony escape charge.
Online jail records indicate Graves was arrested twice in Bartow County after her escape — once in July of 2019 and again on May 7 of this year when she was returned to bond.
Habersham County authorities picked her up on the outstanding escape warrant on June 8, following her sentencing on drug charges.
As of Wednesday, June 9, Graves remained in the Habersham County Detention Center on an $11,100 bond.
