Several local teams saw their hoop hopes dashed over the weekend with season-ending losses in the GHSA and GIAA playoffs.
In the girls’ competition, Habersham Central, Jefferson, Tallulah Falls, Union County, and White County were eliminated in the semifinals. Athens Christian, Banks County, and Rabun advanced to the quarterfinals.
On the boys’ side, the playoffs ended sooner than hoped for Banks County, Commerce, Rabun County, and Tallulah Falls. Habersham Central, Jefferson, and Union advanced to the Elite 8.
