State, congressional candidates debate ahead of runoff

A crowd gathered at the Community House in Cornelia Tuesday night to hear from the six candidates vying for the Republican nomination in three area runoff elections.

Candidates for 9th District Congress, District 50 State Senate, and House District 10 participated in the event sponsored by the Habersham County Republican Party.

Ninth District Republican Chairwoman Rebecca Yardley served as moderator of the tightly timed event in which candidates were asked questions submitted beforehand.

Candidates Stacy Hall and Bo Hatchett appeared in the District 50 State Senate GOP runoff debate (see below). They’re vying for the seat currently held by Sen. John Wilkinson (R-Toccoa). Wilkinson chose not to seek reelection in order to run for Congress.

Candidates Robert Crumbley and Victor Anderson appeared in the House District 10 GOP runoff debate (see below). They’re running for the seat currently held by Rep. Terry Rogers (R-Clarkesville). Rogers chose not to run for reelection. His term expires at the end of this year.

Matt Gurtler and Andrew Clyde also appeared at Tuesday night’s debate.

Early voting in the August 11th runoff begins July 20.
