Habersham County is expanding its emergency alert system. The county has been awarded a Hazard Mitigation Grant by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security to help pay for the purchase and installation of three new outdoor severe weather warning sirens.
The $62,253 project will be covered mostly by federal funds provided through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The amount includes a federal share of $46,690. The remainder will come from a state share of $6,225 and a local share of $9,338.
FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMPG) provides funds to state agencies and local governments to help them reduce or eliminate risks that threaten lives and property.
