The next State Senator from District 50 may well be from Habersham County. Stacy Hall and Bo Hatchett, both Habersham residents, are in the Republican runoff for the seat currently held by outgoing Sen. John Wilkinson (R-Toccoa)
Hall, the chair of the Habersham County Commission, and Hatchett, a Cornelia attorney found their way into the runoff after 24 hours of waiting for election returns to come in from Jackson County. Clarkesville attorney Tricia Hise placed third in the six-person race ahead of Andy Garrison of Jackson County, Lee Moore of Franklin County, and Dan Gasaway of Banks County.
Rabun County’s Dee Dailey picked up nearly 4,000 votes in the Democratic primary. She was the only candidate in the primary. Dailey will face the winner of the GOP primary at the polls in November.
State House District 10
There’s a good chance the next state representative from House District 10 also will be from Habersham County. Former county commissioner chair Victor Anderson has made it into the GOP primary runoff.
Anderson claimed 42.8% of the vote Tuesday in the three-person race to fill the seat being vacated by Rep. Terry Rogers (R-Clarkesville). Anderson will face Robert Crumley in the August 11 runoff. The winner of that runoff will face Democrat Nick Mitchell in the general election in November.
U.S. House District 9
Sen. Wilkinson, who gave up his state Senate seat to run for Congress, failed to make it into the GOP runoff in the 9th district congressional race. The former Toccoa educator was one of nine candidates vying to succeed Rep. Doug Collins.
With all of the votes counted, Matt Gurtler and Andrew Clyde claimed the top two spots. They’ll face off in the August runoff.
Democratic candidates Brooke Siskin and Devin Pandy also will be in a runoff. Siskin won the three-person House District 9 Democratic primary with over 41% of the vote ahead of challengers Pandy and Dan Wilson.
U.S. Senate
Jon Ossoff captured the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. Osoff emerged from a crowded field to win an outright victory in the race to challenge U.S. Sen. David Perdue in November.
